ELMIRA, N.Y. -- For the first time since March 8, 2020, 727 days ago, the Keuka College cheerleading team took the competition floor at the Upstate Collegiate Championship on Sunday. The competition was hosted by Elmira College. This is the first season for head coach, Michelle Post. The Wolves put out a solid performance, boasting zero deductions in tumbling, basket tosses, and pyramids.
Keuka College took home first place after competing uncontested in the small coed intermediate division finishing with a score of 57.7. The Wolves finished 2nd overall in the intermediate division where Gannon University, Mount Saint Mary College, and Alfred University competed with all-girl teams. Gannon University's score of 73.45 was the highest in the intermediate division, followed by Keuka College Mount Saint Mary College and Alfred University.
The Wolves faced some difficulties in the stunt section of their routine, taking one point in deductions for mistakes made throughout the routine. The Wolves posted high scores in the basket toss and collegiate image categories. Head Coach Michelle Post said "this was a great start to the competition season. It's clearly early in the season for all teams and I am excited to see improvement over the next couple of weeks."
The Wolves take the mat again at home in the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center next Saturday, March 12. The Keuka College Cheer and Dance Classic will be the first home competition for Keuka College cheer in the school's history.
