Wolves Fall in Five at SUNY Poly

MARCY, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team dropped a five-set North Eastern Athletic Conference match at SUNY Poly on Wednesday evening.

Keuka College (7-17, 4-7 NEAC) was led by Grace Allen with 14 kills and Abby Anderson with 10 for the Wolves. The offense flowed through Delaney Yorks with 31 assists. Ericka Carlson led the defensive effort with 26 digs and added three aces for the Wolves.

SUNY Poly 3 vs. Keuka College 2 – 25-20, 15-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-12

Keuka College built and early lead against the Wildcats on Wednesday. The Wolves lead was six at 16-10, forcing SUNY Poly to a timeout. The Wildcats came out of the break and scored seven of the next eight points to tie the set at 17-17. SUNY Poly continued the momentum, hitting kills in the final four points as the Wildcats took the opener 25-20.

The second set followed the same script with an early Keuka lead building to a six-point lead and a SUNY Poly timeout. Unlike the first set, the Wolves remained in control following the timeout. Keuka increased their lead and a kill by Grace Allen ended the second 25-15, levelling the match.

Keuka College continued the flow in the third, scoring the first four points, but the Wildcats responded, tying the set at 10-10. Following three more ties, SUNY Poly began to build a lead. The Wildcats won the third 25-20, taking a 2-1 lead in the match.

A 5-0 lead for the Wolves grew to a 10-2 advantage early in the fourth. The closest the Wildcats would make it was three points. Tionna Moss capped the set with a kill for the 25-18 victory, forcing a fifth and final set.

Keuka College held a 5-4 lead in the fifth, but the hosts rallied to force the changeover at 8-6. The Green and Golf fought tough until the end. Keuka tied the set at 10-10, and trailed just by one at 13-12, but the Wildcats closed it out, winning the fifth 15-12 to win the match.

  • Keuka College is now 17-13 all-time against SUNY Poly. The Wolves fell to 2-3 in five-set matches against the Wildcats
  • The Wolves hit at a better rate than the Wildcats, posting a .123 hitting percentage over SUNY Poly's .116
  • Grace Allen tied her career-high for kills, set earlier this season
  • Ericka Carlson did the same, tying her career high for digs in a match. She also set a new career high with three aces
  • Carlson was named North Eastern Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold close out their 2019 season at the College at Brockport on Saturday. The Wolves will play a pair of matches, facing Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University in neutral-site games.
