Wolves Sweep Hawks for First Conference Wins

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Softball team earned their first Empire 8 Conference wins of the season on Friday, sweeping a doubleheader against Hartwick College at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (4-19, 2-8 Empire 8) pulled out a close 2-0 victory in game one. The Wolves then jumped on the Hawks for nine runs in the first inning as they defeated Hartwick 11-3 in five innings in game two.

Keuka College 2 vs. Hartwick College 0 – Game 1
Starting pitcher Olivia Flynn had three strikeouts over the first two innings to keep Hartwick off the board. The Wolves took the lead in the bottom of the second. Emily Cutrona singled for the Wolves. She then scored from first on a double by Haley Mascho to make it 1-0.

Keuka College added to their lead an inning later as Kaylin Ritenour led off with a single and moved around and scored on a groundout by Giana Mruczek.

Flynn held the lead from there. She allowed only one hit over the next three innings as the Wolves took the 2-0 advantage into the final inning. After two quick outs, Hartwick loaded the bases, but Flynn struck out the final batter for the 2-0 victory.

Keuka College 11 vs. Hartwick College 3 (5 inn.) – Game 2
Keuka College took control of game two from the beginning. Olivia Flynn led off the bottom of the first with a single and that was followed by a bunt single by Kaylin Ritenour. Flynn scored on a double steal, and Ritenour came home on a triple by Hailey Jasinski. A double by Makenna DeMoney scored Jasinski, and Emily Cutrona later scored two on a single. The Wolves turned the lineup over with Olivia Flynn getting her second hit of the inning, a two-run double. The Wolves added a run on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly for the 9-0 lead.

Hartwick scored a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Wolves matched it in the bottom of the inning. Hailey Jasinski and Giana Mruczek each had RBI singles in the inning for the Green and Gold as Keuka pushed their lead to 11-2.

The Hawks scored on run in the fifth, but Mruczek stopped them there. The first-year pitcher got a flyout to end the game with the Wolves winning 11-3.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will look to carry the momentum into Saturday as Keuka College has another Empire 8 doubleheader at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. Keuka College will host Russell Sage College at 11 a.m. The Wolves will be looking for revenge as the Gators ended Keuka's season in the first round of the Empire 8 Tournament last year.
