Wolves Fight Hard Against Giants

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Field Hockey team dropped a tight game to Keystone College 1-0 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon.

A second-quarter goal was the difference for Keystone. Jordan Nichols made 10 saves in goal for the Wolves (0-2).

The game opened with a battle for possession between the two teams. Both Keuka and Keystone had one corner attempt and one shot in the opening 10 minutes, but both shots were blocked and didn't make it to goal. The two teams would be scoreless after the first 15 minutes of play.

Keuka had an early attempt with Kirstin Billings getting the first shot on goal for the Wolves but was saved. She was able to collect the rebound but her second effort was blocked by the defender and cleared. Keystone flipped the field and was able to center the ball from the end line and get the first goal of the game five minutes into the second. The Wolves had a late advantage following a green card on Keystone but were unable to capitalize. The Giants remained ahead 1-0 at the half.

The Giants attacked early in the second half and thought they doubled their lead, only to have the goal waived off. Nichols had five saves in the frame for the Wolves and Kristen Despins added a defensive save for the Wolves to keep it at a one-goal game.

Keuka pressed to get the equalizer in the final quarter. The Wolves had five shots in the fourth and had four corners. Despite the pressure, Keuka was unable to get that final shot to find the back of the goal. The Giants would hold on to defeat the Wolves 1-0 on Saturday.
