KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Keuka College Softball played their first Empire 8 Conference doubleheader of the season losing to Utica University in both games.
Keuka College (3-11, 0-2 Empire 8) lost their first game against Utica University 18-9. The Wolves lost the second game 10-1 to the Pioneers in five innings.
Keuka College 9 vs Utica University 18 - Game One
The Wolves got down early in the first game after the Pioneers put up 6 runs in the first inning. A double from
Kelsey Mohl (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) knocked in fellow senior
Helena Hill (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) to put the Wolves up on the board in the bottom of the first. The Wolves' bats were warmed up for the second inning.
Hannah Longley (Hannibal, N.Y. / Hannibal),
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley), and
Hali Jenner (Waverly, N.Y. / Waverly) all had RBIs to bring the Wolves to a 6-6 tie game.
The Pioneers managed to cross 12 more runs across the plate before the end of the game.
Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) knocked in the seventh run for the Wolves in the bottom of the fourth. Jenner again came up big in the bottom of the fifth with a single up the middle that scored two more, but it was ultimately not enough to bring the Wolves back and they would lose the first game 18-9.
Lead Wolf: Hali Jenner led the Wolves' offense going 2 for 4 in game one with three RBIs. She also had a sacrifice fly to left field in the bottom of the second to score one of her RBIs.
Keuka College 1 vs Utica University 10– Game Two- 5 Innings
The Pioneers carried their momentum into the second game, scoring two runs quickly in the top of the first. With the Wolves unable to answer, they quickly compounded their lead through the fifth inning jumping out 10-0.
The Wolves needed to score to keep the game going and
Emily Cutrona led off the bottom of the fifth getting on base by a Pioneers error.
Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) smashed a triple to right field to score the first Wolves run of the game. This would not be enough to keep the Wolves alive and they fell 10-1 in game two to close out their first Empire 8 doubleheader of the season.

Olivia Flynn came up big for the Wolves again at the plate in game two. Â She also closed out the game on the mound throwing 4 strikeouts in 3.1 innings of work.

- The Keuka College Softball team is 8-21 all-time against Utica University.
- Freshman Kaitlyn Holland (Leicester, N.Y. / York) recorded her first career hit in game one against the Pioneers today.
- The Wolves collectively had 20 hits as a team between their two games today. This is the most in a doubleheader all season.
- Freshman Hannah Longley extended her hitting streak to 7 games after today's doubleheader.
