KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Keuka College Softball team played a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at home, defeating SUNY Delhi in both games.
Keuka College (5-13, 0-4 Empire 8) defeated the Broncos 8-6 in game one. The Wolves then went on to defeat SUNY Delhi 11-3 in five innings in game two.
Keuka College 8 vs SUNY Delhi 6 - Game One
The Wolves got ahead first in game one after
Hannah Longley (Hannibal, N.Y./Hannibal) bunted to third base for a hit to lead off the bottom of the first. After stealing second base and advancing on a ground ball from
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley), Longley scored easily on a passed ball.
The Broncos tied the game up in the top of the second, but
Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) brought the score to 2-1 in the Wolves' favor with aggressive baserunning. SUNY Delhi controlled the game going forward, jumping out to a 6-2 lead heading into the fifth inning.
The Wolves fought back in the fifth and sixth inning. A sacrifice fly ball from
Emily VanDelinder (Corning, N.Y. / Corning) scored the run that tied the game 6-6, and
Makenna DeMoney singled to center field to knock in the eighth and final run of the game bringing the Wolves to an 8-6 win.
Lead Wolf: Freshman
Hannah Longley led the Wolves' offense going three-for-three, scoring two runs, and stealing two bases for the Wolves. Longley used her speed to bunt for a hit twice, along with a single to center field and a sacrifice bunt.
Keuka College 11 vs SUNY Delhi 3– Game Two- 5 Innings
The Broncos took control of game two early with a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.
Emily Cutrona scored the first run for the Wolves off a fielder's choice hit by
Kaitlyn Holland (Leicester, N.Y. / York). From there the Wolves' offense took off scoring in the third, fourth, and fifth inning.
Helena Hill (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) and
Makenna DeMoney both went three-for-four in game two with two triples.
Caitlynne Marczyk (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) knocked in the Wolves' final run of the game with a sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 11-3 and give the Wolves the win after five innings.
Lead Wolf: Freshman
Makenna DeMoney was a force at the plate going three-for-four with one RBI and scoring three runs for the Wolves. DeMoney made the most of her at-bats hitting two triples and a double in the Wolves' victory.
KC Notes:
- The Keuka College Softball team faced off with SUNY Delhi for the first time in program history on Wednesday afternoon.
- This is the 100th new opponent that the softball program has faced in its 39 seasons.
- Caitlynne Marczyk earned her first RBI of the season with her sacrifice fly to end game two.
- Senior Helena Hill and Freshman Makenna DeMoney both set a personal best with two triples in game two.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Keuka College Softball team is back to Empire 8 Conference play with a doubleheader at Alfred University on Friday afternoon at 3:00 pm. The Wolves will then return home for an Empire 8 doubleheader against Houghton University at 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 15th.
