Keuka College Softball Drops Two on Opening Day

CLERMONT, Fla.- The Keuka College Softball team began their season in Clermont, Florida on Sunday. They opened up with two losses, one against Colby College and one against Middlebury College.
The Wolves (0-2, 0-0 Empire 8) lost the first game 13-1 against the Mules in the morning but played a close game in the afternoon against Middlebury College, ultimately losing 3-2.

Keuka College 1 vs Colby College 13 – 5 innings – Game One
The Mules controlled the first three innings and began to dominate with an 11-0 lead off a combination of hits and Wolves' errors.
The Wolves managed to tack a run on the board after MaKenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) led off the top of the fourth inning with a double to right-center field. Senior Kelsey Mohl (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) singled right after and Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Demoney.
The Mules managed to score two more in the bottom of the fourth and the Wolves were unable to answer.

Lead Wolf: Freshman MaKenna DeMoney was the key component in the Wolves' lone run in the first game by leading off the top of the fourth with a double.

Middlebury College 3 vs Keuka College 2 – Game Two
The Wolves came back strong in the second game. Hali Jenner (Waverly, N.Y. /Waverly) had a stellar first outing as a Wolf in the circle. Jenner threw the complete seven-inning game with two strikeouts and only four hits given up.
The Wolves' offense also came back strong in the first inning. A single from Helena Hill (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) led off the inning and her fellow Senior Kelsey Mohl doubled her in. MaKenna DeMoney also crossed home plate in the first on a passed ball to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead.
Keuka College held the 2-0 lead until the fourth when Middlebury tied up the game. From there it was a pitcher's battle as neither team could break through on offense to take the lead. It was not until the top of the seventh that Middlebury College finally manage to cross one more across the plate and the Wolves were unable to answer resulting in a 3-2 loss.

Lead Wolf: Sophomore transfer Hali Jenner had a fantastic first showing as a Wolf allowing just four hits in a complete game outing.
