Nichols Makes 21 Stops in Loss to SUNY Geneseo

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — Keuka College junior Jordan Nichols made a career-high 21 saves for the Wolves, but Keuka College fell to SUNY Geneseo 6-1 in field hockey on Wednesday.

Anna Dewey scored for Keuka College (4-9, 2-3 Empire 8) with Tori Nelson getting the assist.

SUNY Geneseo controlled play for most of the first quarter. The Wolves had a chance five minutes in as they got a corner opportunity that led to a good shot by Anna Dewey, but it was saved. At the other end, Jordan Nichols made all eight saves she was called upon for as the game was scoreless after one.

The Knights continued to pressure the Wolves in the second. The visitors broke through with a goal 20 minutes into the game. They doubled it five minutes before halftime. In total, SUNY Geneseo outshot Keuka 14-0 in the frame and led 2-0 at the half.

After SUNY Geneseo made it 3-0 in the early minutes, the Wolves were able to mount some pressure. The Green and Gold had two straight corners but were unable to generate a shot. Later off of another corner, Tori Nelson was able to dribble in the middle of the circle. Her shot was saved by Anna Dewey was there to knock in the rebound to make it 3-1.

The fourth opened with SUNY Geneseo getting a penalty stroke and converting, making it 4-1. The Knights outshot the Wolves 13-0 in the fourth and added two more goals as they continued on to the 6-1 victory.

KC Notes:
  • The Wolves fall to 0-8 to SUNY Geneseo all-time. The Knights are one of three teams Keuka College has faced in their non-conference schedule in every year of the program. That will change next year as SUNY Geneseo joins the Empire 8
  • The career-high in saves pushed Nichols over 300 saves for her career
  • She now has 138 on the season, fourth-most in program history
  • It was the second straight game with a goal for Anna Dewey
  • Tori Nelson tallied her tenth assist of the season. She has 18 points this season, tying for eighth-most in program history
  • The 21 saves for Nichols tied for the fifth-most saves in a game for Keuka College
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have one final home game left on the schedule. Keuka College will host Utica University at 5 p.m. at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex on Friday. It will also be Senior Day for the field hockey team. There will be a pregame ceremony honoring the seniors on this year's squad.
