KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Field Hockey team lost on Friday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex to Utica University 1-0 in an Empire 8 Conference match.

The Wolves attacked right away on Friday, getting a pair of corners in the opening 70 seconds. They would continue to threaten the Pioneer goal. The Wolves had five shots and seven corners in the opening 15 minutes, but the game remained scoreless after one.

Utica settled into the game and it was their turn to attack the Keuka goal. Utica had three shots to Keuka's zero in the second quarter. The Pioneers were able to break through five minutes before halftime to lead 1-0 at the break.

Each team had a corner opportunity in the third quarter, but only Utica would be able to generate a shot. The Pioneers had a pair in the frame, one on goal, but Nichols made the save as the game went to the fourth with the visitors leading 1-0.

The Wolves pressed in the fourth. An early shot by Mills was saved but led to back-to-back corners for Keuka. However, the Wolves were unable to take advantage of the chances. Utica answered back with a corner and shot but Nichols made the save. The Wolves had two final corners with two minutes left to play. The latter ended with a shot by Tori Nelson, but it was saved as the Pioneers defeated the Wolves 1-0.

KC Notes:
  • The Green and Gold remain in search of their first win over Utica in five meetings. Friday was the fewest goals the Wolves have allowed to the Pioneers in the series
  • Senior Day was the 65th game in the career of Makaela Mills. She now sits in fourth on the career games played list
  • Before the game, the Wolves honored Mills, Erin Patterson, and Jill McGinley for their careers as they played in their final home game
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves have one final week left of the regular season. Keuka College will be on the road for a pair of games. They will open at St. Lawrence University on Thursday afternoon and then finish the regular season at Harwick College next Saturday.
