Box Score 2 Sophomores Ally Muller (Bath, NY/Haverling) and Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) and freshman Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) each drove in two runs as the Keuka College softball team picked up its first win of the year, knocking off SUNY Cobleskill 12-3 Sunday afternoon in Cobleskill, N.Y.
The Storm (1-3, 1-1 NEAC) would split the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader, dropping game two by a score of 7-1.
In the opener, senior Katie Evangelista (Geneva, NY/Geneva) was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI and classmate Jill Hart (Cowlesville, NY/Iroquois) was 3-for-4 with four runs scored and an RBI as the Storm pounded out 13 hits.
Muller was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and freshman Alysha Bachman (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) was 2-for-3 with a run scored in the win.
Sophomore Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) allowed three runs with four strikeouts and no walks in the complete game win.
Evangelista got the Green and Gold on the board with a one-out, solo home run in the first inning. Muller added an RBI single and Cole plated two runs on a single as the Storm led 4-0 after the top of the first.
With one out in the second, Evangelista singled and scored on Hart's RBI triple, and Hart scored on a wild pitch to put Keuka up 6-0.
Warren did not allow a hit until a bunt single to leadoff the fourth. Cobleskill (1-3, 1-1) scored a run in the fourth, but Muller had an RBI double and freshman Janel Prince (Holley, NY/Elba) added an RBI groundout as the Storm took an 8-1 lead into the bottom of the sixth.
Leading 8-3, Blum had a two-run single to spark a four-run seventh as the Storm earned their first win of the year.
In the nightcap, Keuka fell despite out-hitting the Fighting Tigers 6-5.
Evangelista, senior Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia), sophomore Jessica Parmiter (Cortland, NY/Homer) and freshman Tally McDonald (Romulus, NY/Romulus) all doubled in the loss for the Green and Gold.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the fourth, Hart singled and Parmiter doubled as the Storm had runners on second and third with one out. Muller reached on a fielder's choice, but Hart was thrown out trying to score on the play, then Cole flew out to right field to end the threat.
The Tigers pushed across six runs in the bottom of the inning. McDonald doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on an error, but the Storm were held scoreless for the rest of the game as Cobleskill earned the split.
Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) allowed seven runs (five earned) on five hits with three strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Keuka's home opener is a non-conference doubleheader against SUNY Geneseo Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is at 3 p.m.
