Softball Splits With Rival SUNY Cobleskill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) tossed a complete-game, two-hitter and classmate Jill Hart (Cowlesville, NY/Iroquois) had a two-run single as the Keuka College softball team earned a win in game one, but the Storm split Saturday's North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) doubleheader with SUNY Cobleskill.

Keuka College (13-7, 13-3 NEAC) won the opener, 3-0, before dropping game two, 5-4.

Sophomore Ally Muller (Bath, NY/Haverling) was 4-for-6 with three RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader while Hart finished the day 3-for-6 with three RBI for the Storm.

Gravel held the Fighting Tigers (16-8, 14-4) to a pair of singles in the opener, striking out one with no walks in running her record to 7-3.

The Storm pushed across two runs in the first. After freshman Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) reached on a fielder's choice, Muller singled to center field, moving Blum to second. Hart then laced a two-run single up the middle into center field to plate both Blum and Muller for a 2-0 lead.

Cobleskill had a single in both the first and second innings, but that was all Gravel would allow. She retired 14 of the next 15 batters she faced. Gabriella Barilli was the only Cobleskill batter who reached after the second inning. She was hit by a pitch with one out in the third, but the next batter, Madeline DeMelio, grounded into an inning-ending double play.

The Storm tacked on a run in the bottom of the third. Senior Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) led off with a triple and scored on Hart's RBI single into center field.

Gravel set down the final 12 batters she faced to lift the Storm to the win in the opener.

In the nightcap, Muller was 2-for-3 with three RBI, including a first-inning, three-run home run to stake the Green and Gold to an early 3-0 lead. Lessard and Blum each singled before Muller launched her fourth home run of the year.

The score remained 3-0 until the top of the fifth. Cobleskill scored four times to take the lead, but the Storm tied the score in the bottom of the inning.

In the seventh, Cobleskill took the lead for good when Kelsey DeZalia led off with a single and scored on Megan Golden's triple to right field.

Lessard hit a one-out single in the bottom of the inning, but the Storm were unable to score the tying run and finished the season series with a 2-2 record against Cobleskill.

Sophomore Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) took the loss, falling to 6-4 after allowing five runs on 12 hits in seven innings.

The Storm host SUNYIT at 1 p.m. Sunday afternoon in a critical NEAC North doubleheader before closing out the regular season on the road against Cazenovia College Tuesday.
