Box Score 2 A powerful offense and a pair of efficient pitching performances helped the Keuka College softball team sweep Wells College Friday afternoon as the Storm extended their winning streak to eight games.
Freshman Samantha Blum (Niskayuna, NY/Colonie) was 6-for-7 with four RBI, four runs scored and a home run while sophomore Mackenzie Cole (Ogdensburg, NY/Ogdensburg Free Academy) was 5-for-7 with four runs scored and four RBI to lift the Storm (9-5, 9-1 NEAC).
Keuka College knocked off the Express (1-9, 1-9) by scores of 16-3 and 12-0 (five innings) in Aurora, N.Y.
Senior Danielle Gravel (Sidney, NY/Sidney) allowed one earned run with six strikeouts and only one walk in a complete-game win in game one.
Sophomore Liz Warren (Elmira Heights, NY/Thomas A. Edison) struck out 10 and allowed two hits just five innings for the win in game two. Warren did not allow a walk and only faced four batters above the minimum (19) in earning her fifth straight win.
Blum was 4-for-5, Cole was 3-for-5 and senior Jill Hart (Cowlesville, NY/Iroquois) and freshman Alysha Bachman (Seneca Falls, NY/Mynderse) each drove in two runs in the first game as the Storm outhit the Express 18-5.
Sophomore Ally Muller (Bath, NY/Haverling) staked Keuka College to a 1-0 lead on a two-out, RBI double to left field in the top of the first. A sacrifice fly from Hart put the Storm up 2-0 heading into the bottom of the second before Wells got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the inning.
The Green and Gold scored an unearned run in the fourth and took a 5-1 lead in the fifth after sophomore Jessica Parmiter (Cortland, NY/Homer) and freshman Tally McDonald (Romulus, NY/Romulus) each had RBI singles.
Hart extended the lead to 6-1 on an RBI single, and the Storm tacked on a pair of runs on a fielding error for an 8-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth.
Wells got a run back in the sixth before the Storm pounced for eight runs in the seventh. Bachman delivered a two-run double down the right field line and Blum and freshman Brianna Long (Arkport, NY/Dansville) each had RBI singles to lead the Green and Gold.
In the nightcap, Cole had four RBI, Blum had three RBI, senior Deliane Lessard (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Muller drove in two runs for the Storm.
Cole was 2-for-3 with a run scored, Hart was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Blum was 2-for-2 with two runs scored as the Green and Gold completed the sweep.
Muller put the Storm up 1-0 on a first-inning groundout before Cole smacked a two-run double, Lessard added an RBI double and Muller added an RBI single as the Storm took a 6-0 lead into the third.
Cole hit a two-run single and Lessard added an RBI single in the third for a 9-0 lead, and the Green and Gold put away the Express when Blum launched a three-run home run over the center field fence in the fifth.
Warren struck out the side in the first and struck out five of the first six batters she faced.
The Storm host the Express at 1 p.m. Saturday for a NEAC doubleheader.
