KISSIMMEE, Fla. — The Keuka College Softball team played their final two games of their spring trip to Florida on Friday in Kissimmee.
Keuka College (2-7) lost the opener to the University of Southern Maine 13-2 in the first game and then closed the day with a 9-4 defeat to Manchester University.
University of Southern Maine 13 vs. Keuka College 2 (5 innings)
Southern Maine struck first on Friday with a pair of runs in the first inning. Keuka looked to answer right back as
Olivia Flynn led off with a double but was left stranded.
The Huskies took control of the game with four runs in each of the next two innings and then three in the fourth. The Wolves pulled two back in the bottom of the fourth as
Gabby Glanville led off with a walk and
Hailey Jasinski followed with a home run to right center, her second homer of the spring trip.
Southern Maine closed it out for a 13-2 victory in five innings.
Manchester University 9 vs. Keuka College 4
The Spartans scored three in the bottom of the first for the early lead over the Wolves.
The Wolves sent nine to the plate in the top of the fourth as they tied the game.
Hailey Jasinski led off the inning with a double to the fence and
Grace Eagen followed with a single to score her. Next to the plate was
Alexis Kopetchny who also singled, scoring Eagen on the play to make it 3-2. Later in the inning, Oliva Flynn delivered an RBI single for the Wolves to tie the game.
Manchester answered right back with three in the bottom of the inning, but Keuka had a quick answer.
Hailey Jasinski led off the fourth for the Wolves and hit her second home run of the day to nearly the exact same place in right centerfield to cut the deficit to two at 6-4.
However, the Spartans continued to score, plating two in the bottom of the fifth. The damage could have been worse, but
Katie Landers made a leaping grab at short and threw to Kopetchny at third to double-up the runner and end the innings.
Manchester added a run in the sixth and kept the Wolves off the board to secure the 9-4 victory over Keuka College.
KC Notes:
- The Wolves remain in search of their first win against either school in program history. They are now 0-2 against the Huskies and 0-3 against the Spartans with all the meetings coming in Florida
- Keuka College was limited to three hits in the first game against Southern Maine with Hailey Jasinski and Olivia Flynn providing the big hits. Olivia Frank added a single for the Wolves
- Katie Landers was held without a hit on Friday, snapping her career-high seven-game hitting streak
- In game two, eight Wolves had hits, again led by Hailey Jasinski with a double and a home run.
- Lena Ramos had a single for the Wolves against the Spartans. It was the transfer's first hit in a Keuka College uniform
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves travel back north and will now prepare for the rest of the season. Keuka College will next be in action on Thursday as they play at Pitt.-Bradford. The Green and Gold will then begin their Empire 8 Conference schedule over the weekend as they host SUNY Geneseo on Saturday.
