DUNMORE, Pa. — The Keuka College Baseball team opened the 2025 season with a doubleheader at Penn State Scranton on Friday.
Keuka College (1-1) dropped the opener 10-8 but rallied for the split, winning game two 11-1.
Penn State Scranton 10 vs. Keuka College 8 – Game 1
Keuka College jumped out to the quick lead as
Kyle Wood doubled and scored in the first inning. The Wolves added to their lead with three runs in the second.
Owen Garvey had an RBI single for the Wolves. Later in the inning, Wood and
Carlos Fantauzzi drove in runs as the Wolves led 4-0.
The lead held until the third when Penn State scored four runs to tie the game.
Mason Smith entered in relief and stranded the bases loaded to keep the game tied.
In the fifth inning,
John Valinoti led the inning off with a single. Pinch-runner
Jay Antinore moved to second on a bunt and scored on an RBI single by
Shane Daley as the Wolves regained the lead. However, a two-run home run in the bottom of the inning flipped the lead to the Nittany Lions. An inning later, a grand slam by Scranton pushed their lead to 10-5 over the Wolves.
Keuka tried to rally in the seventh. The Wolves plated three runs and got the tying runner on base, but they would not be able to cash it in as Keuka lost the opener 10-8.
Lead Wolves: Kyle Wood,
Tyler Lewandowski, and
Alex Solema all recorded a pair of hits for the Wolves. Wood and Solema also drove in a run and scored one themselves.
Keuka College 11 at Penn State Scranton 1 – Game 2
After having eight runs on ten hits in the first game, the Wolves kept the offense rolling in game two.
Tyler Lewandowski and
Kyle Wood led the game off with back-to-back doubles to give the Wolves the lead. That sparked a six-run first for the Green and Gold. Valinoti and
Alex Evans added RBI singles in the frame. The inning was capped by a two-run single by
Ian Ruhmel as the Wolves led 6-0.
The Nittany Lions answered back with a run in the bottom of the inning, but Keuka added to their lead in the third.
Zach Keck led the inning off with a walk and scored on a triple from
Tyler Lewandowski.
Kyle Wood followed with a double to score Lewandowski to extend the lead.
Keck delivered an RBI single for the Wolves an inning later as a part of a two-run inning to make it 10-1.
Wyatt Ernst entered on the mound for the Wolves and did not allow a run and only two hits over the final four innings. Ernst was helped by the Wolves defense as Keuka turned a double play to end the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Green and Gold added a final run in the seventh as
Carlos Fantauzzi worked a bases-loaded walk. Keuka earned the split with an 11-1 victory in game two.
Lead Wolf: Alex Evans filled the box score of the Wolves. The sophomore infielder had two hits, two runs scored, and two runs batted in in game two. Defensively, he was also involved in two of the three double plays turned by the Wolves.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves and Nittany Lions will conclude their four-game series on Saturday. Keuka College and Penn State Scranton will play another doubleheader in Pennsylvania starting at noon.
