Wolves Fall on the Road to Open Season

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Keuka College Women's Basketball team lost at Penn College 74-67 to open their 2025-26 season.

Senior Mary Cotter led Keuka College (0-1) with 22 points in the loss. Brooke Burd picked up right where she left off last year by recording a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Lillian Mullen made a layup in the first minute for the Wolves for the first basket of the season, but Penn College held an early lead. The Wolves cut into the margin with a three by Courtney Moreau midway through the frame, but Penn remained ahead. The Wildcats led by three after one.

The Wolves took the ball to start the second quarter. Mullen found Cotter for a three on the opening possession to tie the game. Minutes later, Emilee Bacon found Cotter for a three to give the Wolves a 21-20 lead. The lead would bounce back to Penn College, but then back to the Wolves. A three by Lillian Mullen put Keuka up 26-22, however Penn College would take the lead back and take a six-point lead, 38-32, into the halftime break.

Penn College would push their lead to eight early in the third, but Keuka College would control the middle of the quarter. A three by Mary Cotter started the run. The Wolves scored 11 unanswered over the next four minutes to take the lead. A three by Lillian Mullen gave the Wolves a five-point advantage. The Wildcats snapped the run and added a basket in the last minute, but Keuka led 49-48 going into the final quarter.

The Wildcats opened the fourth on a 9-0 run over the first two minutes. Keuka pushed midway through the frame. A three by Mary Cotter cut the margin down to two, but Penn College reestablished their lead and finished out the 74-67 victory.

KC Notes:
  • The Wolves are now 7-3 all-time against Penn College. Keuka College has now fallen in three straight season-opening games
  • Mary Cotter tied her career-high with six threes in the game. She moved her career total to 125, tying Jessica Fink '11 for sixth in program history
  • It was the sixth career double-double for Brooke Burd, tying for eighth-most in program history
  • The Wolves finished +16 in rebounds on Saturday. Burd led with 10 for Keuka, but first-year Emilee Bacon was right behind her with nine
  • Keuka College held Penn College without a three-pointer in the game. The last time the Wolves did not allow a three was against Wells College in February 2020
  • The difference in the threes was made up at the free throw line. Fouls were 25-9 and resulted in Penn College going 22-28 from the line, while Keuka went 2-4
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will turn their attention towards the home opener. Keuka College will host Pitt.-Bradford on Monday at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center. Tipoff between the Wolves and the Panthers is set for 5:30 p.m.
