KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Women's Volleyball team lost at home on Saturday, falling to Alfred University 3-0 in an Empire 8 Conference match.
Alessandra Castañeda led Keuka College (1-15, 0-2 Empire 8) with six kills and 11 digs.
Phoebe Swartz added 11 assists for the Wolves, and
Rosslan Force finished with five kills.
Alfred University 3 at Keuka College 0 – 25-22, 25-13, 25-17
After Alfred got the opening point. The Wolves went on a good run to start the opening set. The Green and Gold went up 5-1, forcing the Saxons into the early timeout. When play resumed,
Phoebe Swartz and
Rosslan Force teamed up for a block. Alessandra Castañeda followed with a kill as the run went to seven for the early advantage. The Saxons used a 5-point run to narrow the margin to two as Keuka took a timeout. The Wolves topped the run, but Alfred later tied it at 13-13. The set would stay close down the stretch. Keuka College took a 22-21 lead, but Alfred scored the final four points to take the opener 25-22.
Phoebe Swartz hit a pair of aces early in the second for the 4-2 Keuka advantage. The Saxons responded later with a run of seven out of eight points to take a 12-8 lead over the Wolves. The visitors later scored seven unanswered points to take control of the set. They would go up 2-0 in the match, winning the second 25-13.
The Saxons carried the momentum into the third, jumping out to a 7-2 lead over the Wolves.
Nina Scott hit a kill and looked the swing the momentum, but Alfred responded with two more points. The Wolves were unable to string together runs in the third, at most scoring on back-to-back points. This allowed Alfred to play with a lead and see the match out. They won the final set 3-0 to sweep the match.

- Keuka College and Alfred University have a long-standing series on the volleyball court. Starting in 1975, Saturday was the 53rd match between the two schools. Keuka remains ahead in the all-time series 29-24
- With it being the 53rd meeting, Alfred passed Cazenovia College as the second-most played opponent in Keuka College Women's Volleyball history and is just one match behind the 54 times Keuka College has faced Oswego State
- Gabby Rodriguez finished with nine digs in the match
- Nina Scott added five kills and five digs for the Wolves
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves are in the heart of Empire 8 play now as the calendar has moved to October. Keuka College will be back in action next Friday as they travel to SUNY Brockport. The Green and Gold will then host SUNY Geneseo in a week as they welcome the Knights to the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center on Saturday, October 11 at 1 p.m.
