Fredonia 3, Keuka College 1 | 25-14, 25-27, 26-24, 26-24
Fredonia controlled the first set early on with aggressive serving to keep the Wolves off balance. The Wolves got within three after a timely kill from Scott, but the Blue Devils would go on a 7-1 run to pull away. Fredonia would take the first set 25-14.
Keuka responded in the second set with renewed intensity. Scott and Edholm combined for crucial kills, keeping the Wolves in contention throughout a close back-and-forth set. Key defensive plays from
Gabby Rodriguez and a steady offensive running through the hands of
Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) and
Summer Elza (Goodyear, Ariz. / The Odyssey Institute of Advanced and International Studies), helped the Wolves push Fredonia to the edge. The set saw ties at both 24 and 25 but after a Blue Devil service error,
Nina Scott put the ball away for the Wolves to win set two 27-25.
In the third set, Keuka initially led, bolstered by kills from
Lilah Cousins (Denver, Colo. / Westminster) and Edholm. Hunziker's setting was instrumental in creating offensive opportunities, but Fredonia continued to respond. The Green and Gold were down three but went on a 4-1 run to tie the game at 24. Despite Keuka's efforts to close out the set, Fredonia took the last two points to close it out at 26-24, reclaiming the lead in the match.
The fourth set was another tight contest, with Keuka again finding success through a balanced attack from Edholm and Scott. Hunziker's fifth service ace and Rodriguez's steady digs kept Keuka close, and the Wolves held a slight lead late in the set at 22-20. However, Fredonia capitalized on a few key plays down the stretch to capture the final points, winning the set 26-24 and sealing the 3-1 match victory.
