BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Keuka College Softball team was swept by Medaille University on Saturday afternoon in Buffalo, New York.
Keuka College (10-24, 2-10 Empire 8) lost game one to Medaille University 10-9. The Mavericks then defeated the Wolves 4-1 in game two.
Keuka College 9 at Medaille University 10 – Game One
The Wolves got the lead first as
Helena Hill (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) singled and
Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) knocked her in on a Mavericks error.
The Mavericks took the lead back jumping out to a 4-1 lead after two full innings. The Wolves tied it up in the fourth after a double from
Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) drove in two runs.
Again, the Mavericks put four more on the board to control the game. In the top of the sixth inning, the Wolves took the lead after
Kelsey Mohl (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) singled through the left side to score
Joan Carroll (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) and make the score 9-8.
The Mavericks managed to win the game in the bottom of the seventh on a walk-off single that scored two to win 10-9.
Lead Wolf: Kelsey Mohl made her impact in game one. The Senior went three-for-four at the plate with a double. Mohl earned four RBIs in the game and scored one run herself.
Keuka College 1 at Medaille University 4 – Game Two
The rain picked up in game two and the offense slowed down between the Mavericks and Wolves. The game went scoreless until the fourth inning.
Olivia Flynn doubled to right field and
Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. /West Seneca West) reached first on a fielder's choice to score Flynn and put the Wolves up 1-0.
The Mavericks took the lead back in the bottom of the fifth and held it. With the Wolves unable to score again, the Mavericks jumped out to a 4-1 lead to win game two.
Lead Wolf: Olivia Flynn led the Wolves offense in game two going two-for-two at the plate. Flynn had one double in the game and scored the only Wolves run. Flynn also pitched the full game in the circle for the Wolves, striking out four.
K.C. Notes:
- The Keuka College Softball team is 14-4 all-time against Medaille University.
- The Wolves and Mavericks have been familiar opponents since 1999, but this is the first-ever meeting between the two teams as Empire 8 Opponents.
- With one walk in game one, Helena Hill now is solely in first place overall for career stolen bases with 21.
- The team now has 53 doubles this season, the third most in program history.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Keuka College Softball team has postponed their Senior Day from tomorrow to a later date due to inclement weather. The Wolves are scheduled to next play St. John Fisher on Saturday, May 6th at 1:00 pm at Fisher.
