Softball Splits with Wells College

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. - The Keuka College Softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Wells College at home on Tuesday afternoon.

In game one, Keuka College (8-18, 2-6 Empire 8) fell to Wells College 9-8. In game two, the Wolves defeated the Express 20-2 after five innings.

Keuka College 8 vs Wells College 9- Game One
The Express immediately took the lead in the top of the first scoring two runs. The Wolves scored their first run of the game in the third inning when Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) doubled to left field. In the next inning, the Wolves found their footing on offense and DeMoney came up big for the Wolves with a two-run home run to put the Wolves up 7-2.

The Express would tie the game in the sixth and then take control of the game going up 9-7. Hannah Longley (Hannibal, N.Y. / Hannibal) singled to center field to score the Wolves' eighth run of the game, but that would be it for the Green & Gold and they would fall to the Express 9-8 in game one.

Lead Wolf: Freshman Makenna DeMoney was on fire in game one at the plate. DeMoney had one double and one home run in the game with three RBIs and one run scored. This was Makenna DeMoney's first career homerun as a Wolf and the first out-of-the-park home run by a Wolf this season.

Keuka College 20 vs Wells College 2– Game Two – 5 Innings
The Wolves found their footing after game one and exploded in game two with five different Wolves doubling in the bottom of the first to put Keuka College up 8-0. The Express scored one in the top of the second, but the Wolves came back stronger putting up 12 runs between the second and fourth inning to make the score 20-1.

With one chance left, the Express put together two hits to score one more, but it was not enough to keep up with the Wolves' offense and the Green & Gold took game two 20-2 after five innings.

Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) pitched the full five innings for the Wolves allowing only five hits and striking out 6. The freshman only allowed two runs throughout the game and avoided any walks.

Lead Wolf: Helena Hill (Akron, N.Y. / Akron) led the Wolves' offense again going four-for-five at the plate and scoring two runs. Two of the four hits for the senior were doubles.
