Box Score UTICA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team dropped an Empire 8 game on the road at Utica University 10-4 on Saturday afternoon.
Seth Spurgeon scored a pair of goals for Keuka College (2-5, 0-2 Empire 8). Dylan Hoad turned away nine shots in goal for the Wolves.
Utica University 10 vs. Keuka College 4
The host Pioneers got on top early. Utica College scored the first four goals of the game to stake an early advantage over the Wolves. An individual effort by Seth Spurgeon put the Wolves on the board as the senior scored with 4:38 left in the first. Utica responded less than a minute later, but the Wolves scored the final goal of the first. Hayden Coakley set up Andrew Peterman for the goal, but Utica would lead 5-2 after the first.
The defense stepped up for the teams in the second. In Keuka's end, Dylan Hoad made three saves in the frame, the most of any quarter for the junior. Utica got one early in the quarter, but the Wolves responded late. Seth Spurgeon got his second of the game with one minute left in the half. The second would be tied 1-1, but Utica University remained ahead 6-3 at the half.
The game would remain low-scoring in the third quarter. Only two goals would be scored, but both would be in favor of Utica as the hosts took an 8-3 lead into the final quarter.
Utica scored 40 seconds into the fourth and pushed their goal-run to four midway through the quarter. Keuka College pulled one back with less than five minutes to play. On the man-up, Brandon MacDonell found Matt Jerman for the goal, making it 10-4. That would be the final goal for either team, however, as Utica saw the game out for the Empire 8 Conference victory.

- The fourth-quarter tally was the first career goal for Matt Jerman

- Robert Hill led the defensive efforts with a team-high six ground balls and three caused turnovers
- Logan Katko added a pair of caused turnovers for Keuka. The senior now has 38 in his career, cracking the Keuka College top ten list
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves remain on the road this Wednesday for another tough road Empire 8 game. Keuka College will play at nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College on Wednesday afternoon. The Wolves will then return home next Saturday as Keuka College will host Russell Sage College on April 16.
