HOUGHTON, N.Y. — The #6 seed Keuka College Field Hockey Team (6-12, 4-5 E8) fell to the #3 Houghton University Highlanders (12-5, 7-2 E8) 4-1 on Wednesday night in the first round of the Empire 8 Tournament.
Erin Patterson (Rochester, N.Y./ Gates-Chili) scored the lone goal for the Wolves in the third quarter for the Wolves.
Jordan Nichols (Deposit, N.Y./ Afton) recorded 10 saves in the game.
Keuka College 1 at Houghton University 4
The Wolves worked hard on defense from the start of the game. The Highlanders managed three penalty corners in the first quarter and scored their first goal in the sixth minute of play. Houghton remained on offense for most of the quarter while
Jordan Nichols recorded four saves in the first quarter in goal.
The second quarter proved to be another defensive challenge for the Wolves. Nichols recorded one more save in goal and
Alicia Rush (Fairport, N.Y./ Fairport) had a defensive save, but the Highlanders managed to score two more goals before the end of the half to bring the score to 3-0.
The second half proved to be better for the Wolves offense. Eight minutes into the second half,
Kirstin Billings (Hilton, N.Y./ Hilton) passed to
Erin Patterson who knocked it in to put the Wolves on the board. Nichols recorded three more saves along with another defensive save from
Anna Dewey (Sidney, N.Y./ Sidney) to keep the score at 3-1.
The Highlanders came back strong on offense in the fourth getting a penalty corner just two minutes in. Back-to-back saves from Dewey and Nichols were not enough to stop the Highlander offense who scored their fourth goal of the game five minutes into the final quarter. The Wolves managed to get three shots off in the last six minutes of the game but were unable to find the back of the net. Time ran out and the Highlanders took the win 4-1 bringing the Wolves season to an end.

- Keuka College is 0-7 all-time against Houghton University.
- Houghton won 3-2 in overtime when playing the Wolves in the regular season.
- Both the Wolves and the Highlanders have never been shut out in a game.
- This is the Wolves' first appearance in an Empire 8 tournament game.
- Patterson scored her 11th career goal putting her solely in fifth place overall.
- Jordan Nichols recorded 10 saves in the game moving her solely into second place overall in the career all-time rankings for saves.
