Wolves Drop E8 Game to Hartwick 6-1

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Field Hockey team lost 6-1 to Hartwick College on Saturday in an Empire 8 Conference game at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Kirstin Billings scored the goal for Keuka College (1-9, 1-3 Empire 8). Jordan Nichols made 15 saves in goal.

The Wolves had an early opportunity with a corner. The ball found Erin Patterson on the back post but was cleared away by the Hawks defender. Hartwick worked the ball right down the field and scored to take a 1-0 lead over the Wolves. The Green and Gold continued to pressure Hartwick, earning multiple corners. It would pay off for Keuka as midway through the first, the Wolves worked a corner into the middle of the arc. Laine Rogers had it there and ushered it to the left post, finding Kirstin Billings for the goal to tie the game at 1-1. Both teams would have chances, but the game would remain tied after one.

Hartwick would come out again and score early in the quarter to take the lead over Keuka College. The Hawks would hold Keuka without a shot in the second. Hartwick another goal and led 3-1 at the half.

The Hawks would continue to attack the Wolves. Jordan Nichols made four saves in the third quarter, but the visitors would add a goal to carry a 4-1 lead into the final quarter.

Nichols continued to increase her save count, turning away seven shots in the fourth. Hartwick would tack on a pair of goals. Keuka had a late push with multiple corners, but were unable to connect as the Wolves fell to the Hawks 6-1 on Saturday.

KC Notes:
  • The Wolves are now 0-4 all-time against Hartwick College. Keuka College has never been shutout by the Hawks
  • The goal by Billings was the seventh of her career, breaking a tie and moving her to tenth on the career list
  • 15 saves for Nichols was the third-highest total of the season. The sophomore has recorded double-digit saves in two of the last three games
  • Shots ended in favor of Hartwick 28-5, but corner opportunities was much closer with the Hawks holding only a 12-10 edge
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will again step out of conference for a midweek game. Keuka College will host former conference rival Wells College under the lights at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. The Wolves and Express will start at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6.
