Wolves Open Men's Lacrosse Season at Nazareth

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Playing for their first time in over a calendar year, the Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team lost an Empire 8 game at Nazareth College to the Golden Flyers 25-4.

Keuka College (0-1, 0-1 Empire 8) had four different goal scorers with Connor Cupp, Will York, Brandon MacDonell, and Chris Bellanca all finding the back of the net.

The Golden Flyers got out to a quick start, scoring a pair of goals within seven seconds for the early 2-0 lead. Connor Cupp got the Wolves on the board just under five minutes into the game with an unassisted goal to make it 2-1. Nazareth College would answer with 4 unanswered to lead 6-1 after one.

Keuka College snapped the run minutes into the second as Brandon MacDonell found Will York on the wing with the extra man. York beat the keeper with the long shot to make it 6-2. The Golden Flyers got back on the board and ran with it, scoring 10 straight to lead 16-2 at the half.

The Wolves netted the first goal of the second half, again on the man-up. Brandon MacDonell beat the keeper to make it 16-3, with Josh Moyer earning the assist. The Golden Flyers would score the final five goals of the quarter, however, to take a 21-3 lead into the final quarter.

The Wolves added another extra-man goal in the fourth as Will York set up Chris Bellanca for the tally, but Nazareth College would continue onto the 25-4 conference victory.

  • Keuka College is now 0-4 against Nazareth College
  • Saturday marked the first game Keuka College Men's Lacrosse has played in the Empire 8 Conference. It is Keuka's third conference in program history. They played in the Empire Lacrosse League in the 1990s, then went independent until the North Eastern Athletic Conference started sponsoring lacrosse in 2009.
  • Brandon MacDonell and Will York both finished with a goal and an assist on Saturday
  • Josh Moyer recorded his first career assist
  • Jared Hurlbutt and Shaun Murphy split the game in goal for the Wolves. Hurlbutt recorded nine saves, a personal-best for him at Keuka College, and Murphy recorded five for a new career-high

Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College will play their first home game of the season on Wednesday night. The Wolves will host nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College at 7pm at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
