Men's Lacrosse Downed at Utica

UTICA, N.Y. — The Keuka College Men's Lacrosse team lost a non-conference game at Utica College 16-6 on Wednesday afternoon.

Keuka College (2-2) had their six goals accounted for by six different scorers on Wednesday. Among the scorers, Kasey Gallina, Craig Gerhardt, and Mark Shattuck each had two-point games with a goal and an assist.

The Pioneers jumped out to an early advantage over the Wolves, out-scoring Keuka 6-0 in the first quarter, but the Wolves responded. Ethan Marchitell got the first goal for the Wolves less than a minute into the second. Utica answered but the Wolves then scored four straight to make it a 7-5 game. Utica did add a goal in the final minute of the half and led 8-5 at halftime.

Utica College took advantage of their momentum-stopping goal at the end of the first half. The Pioneers came out of the break and outscored Keuka College 5-0 in the third quarter to build a 13-5 lead. Utica then scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter. Dan Blaessig ended the nine-goal run and nearly 27 scoreless minutes for the Wolves with a goal that would prove to be the final of the game as Utica College defeated Keuka College 16-6.

KC Notes:

  • The Wolves fall to 4-6 all-time against the Pioneers. Keuka College is 1-5 all-time at Utica and is on a five-game losing streak
  • Wednesday was the fewest goals Keuka College has scored in the 10 games against Utica College. It also tied for the most goals ever scored by the Pioneers in the series
  • Keuka College had chances on the man-up against Utica, but the Wolves finished just 1-10 on the advantage
  • Nikoli Biljanoski made 17 saves for Keuka College
  • Utica controlled possession from the faceoff spot. The Pioneers were 16-25 in faceoffs. The bright spot for Keuka came from Brandon Clark as he set a new career-high in faceoff wins, taking four of the six he attempted

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will return home on Saturday afternoon as they host Oswego State at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. The Lakers defeated the Wolves 17-6 last season.
