Keuka College Softball Sweeps Gallaudet

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. — The Keuka College Softball team earned a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference victories on Saturday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (10-14, 6-4 NEAC) won the opening game 14-2 in five innings. The Wolves then scored four unanswered to come from behind and beat the Bison 4-3 in game two.

Keuka College 14 vs. Gallaudet University 2 – Game One, 5 innings

The Wolves took an early lead on Saturday as Jessie Hammers singled to start the game for the Wolves. She would move around on wild pitches to score the opening run. Later in the inning, Janessa Vaadi hit an RBI triple and Hayley Gorges followed that with an RBI sing as the Wolves pulled ahead. Keuka would plate five runs in the opening inning for a 5-0 lead.

Gorges provided the big hit again for Keuka as she drove in a pair of runs on a single in the second inning. The Green and Gold continued to attack as they scored three in the third. Jordan Cole had the big hit in the inning with an RBI double for the Wolves.

Gallaudet University got two runs back in the fourth, but the Wolves responded with four in the bottom of the frame. Jessie Hammers hit an RBI double for the Wolves. Jordan Cole drove in two runs on a single and Janessa Vaadi followed that with an RBI single as the Wolves continued onto the 14-2 victory in five innings.

Lead Wolf: Jordan Cole led the Wolves with a team-high three hits in game one. The freshman had two singles and a double. She drove in three runs and scored two as well.

Keuka College 4 vs. Gallaudet University 3 – Game Two

The Bison opened game two with a bang as Gallaudet scored three runs in the top of the first inning for the early advantage. Keuka responded with a pair in the bottom of the inning to cut the margin to one.

The score would remain until the third inning. Jordan Cole led it off with a single and moved to second on a passed ball. She then advanced to third and scored on a pair of groundouts with Hayley Gorges getting the RBI to tie the game at three.

The Wolves pulled ahead in the fifth inning. Danielle Bosch led off with a single and was bunted to second. She then went to third on a groundout and scored on a two-out single by Janessa Vaadi to give the Wolves a 4-3 lead.

The lead was what starting pitcher Whitney Tyler needed. The sophomore threw a complete game, allowing just two hits and struck out eight as Keuka College defeated Gallaudet 4-3 in game two.

Lead Wolf: Jessie Hammers finished with a pair of hits for Keuka College, a team high. The junior scored a run and stole a pair of bases in the win.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College improves to 4-0 all-time against Gallaudet. The Wolves swept the Bison at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex last season as well
  • Jessie Hammers passed Jill Hart for sixth with 125 career hits
  • Colleen Mooney threw three perfect innings with five strikeouts in game one to earn her 30th career win
  • 14 runs in the opener was a season-high for Keuka

Up Next for Keuka College: Sunday's doubleheader against the College of St. Elizabeth has been postponed and rescheduled for Keuka College on Thursday, April 18. First pitch from the Jephson Community Athletic Complex between the Wolves and the Eagles is set for 3pm.
